The Land of Fairies - Lake Saif-ul-Malook

Jules Renard once said:
“On earth there is no heaven, but there are pieces of it.”
Rough Mountain passage; ascending with the landscape, the air gets cooler and condenses, delivering cloudy skies, cool temperatures and recurrent rain or snow, particularly in winters are the peculiar features of scintillating Northern areas of Pakistan especially Naraan. The lush green and exuberant tourist spots lying along the road to Kaghan and Naraan are worth visiting.

The valleys, somewhat rowdy mountains, lush green meadows and rambunctious streams and rivers on the way to Naraan mesmerize the eyes of the watchers. The scenic beauty all around makes you feel as if you have come to the heaven. It will take a split second to be captivated by the appeal and excellence of this valley. Falling in love with such a ravishing and glamorous place is quite obvious.
The drastic weather changes from cloudy to sunny in Places like Siri Paye and Shogran are alluring and tempt the tourists to visit those tourist spots. The dangerous curvy roads encompassed by forests, from Shogran to Siri Paye, look scary with deep ditches and mountains around, but are definitely worth taking the risk.

A visit to Naraan Valley is imperfect without visiting the fabulous Lake Saif-ul-Maluk. A prince Saif-ul-Maluk was thought to have fallen in love with a fairy from the mountains: the lake being named after him. The lake is encompassed by great snow clad mountains and delegated by the summit of the Malika Parbat. On a crisp morning its pointed crest is reflected in the dark blue waters of the lake. Words cannot portray the magnificence of the landscape. The crystalline water of Saiful Maluk mirroring the snow clad mountains is a treat to watch. June feels like a March there with chilly winds rustling through the greenery.
River Kunhar with its freezing cold water and crazy noise grabs the attention of the visitors. There are scenes are barbecue all along the river. The camps and the small hotels are open for visitors every time. People are generous and meet you with a smiling face. Visiting Saif-ul-Maluk in a Jeep on a rough road passing through the mountains is a thrilling ride, however, hiking to reach the lake takes the adventure to a next level.
Do not look down while hiking, the milky colored water and the huge stones will scare you to death. Although there is an easier way to reach there even with hiking, however, we chose the scary one. Every single step was one step away and towards the death at the same time. We were in a mood to take a bath in the crystal clear water as it was really hot back there from where we came. But our mind and body did not allow us to and rightly so, we would have frozen to death.
Visiting Northern areas for the first time certainly was a pleasant experience. The food, the people and the turbulent streams and rivers, lakes and valleys still cross the corridors of my mind and refresh those mind-boggling and magnificent memories. Do visit this part of Pakistan if you ever get a chance. You will treasure every moment of it.
