Jimmy Johnson once said, "The difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary is that little extra."
There are a lot of sayings and quotes about the fruits of hard work, but this seemed the most appropriate for the person I'm going to write about. Bryant Kobe, yes...the NBA living legend is a perfect example of hard work and determination. Iron will and steel nerves when combined with the ability to leave aside the sluggish attitude produce a LEGEND. And Bryant Kobe is truly a hero, a legend in true sense of the word. NBA lovers already are aware of his tenacity and dedication towards the game. Others will know it very soon.
Do you see the chutzpah in his eyes? Well, these are the eyes of a legend, who was never late for practice in his entire career, who did not miss a single gym session even when he wasn't entirely fit. The list is long and I will come back to it later. Bryant Kobe told ESPN, "What I've done really is just train really hard and watch my diet. I think that's the thing that catches guys most. They don't do self assessing."
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1978, Bryant joined National Basketball Association (NBA) straight after his high school. His stats are staggering having won the MVP award twice along with 5 NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. Third all-time best scorer, Bryant left behind the legend basketball player Michael Jordan this year. These numbers pretty much say it all, however, there's more I want to share with you people.
It would be difficult to beat the work ethics followed by the Pro Basketball player. Here are some of the mind-blowing work ethics followed by Bryant in his Basketball career (and a few life instances too).
- In his high school he'd had one on one games with his fellows to 100. And guess his worst score? He won 100-12. Quite astonishing isn't it?
- He used to start his practice as early as 5 am.
- He would leave the gym not earlier than 7 pm. He was always the first person to be there in the gym always, whether he was fit or not.
- His former teammate John Celestand was unable to beat him even when Kobe had a broken wrist.
- He makes 400 shots in the practice session daily, and he counts all of them.
- This one is the most amazing: Nike dropped a few millimeters of the mass of his shoes to get better reaction time. Can you guess how much less? A hundredth of a second!
